Chez Jude
A fine dining experience and a great dining choice during your Lake Superior rental stay. The contemporary cuisine is made with organic and local ingredients and the menus reflect the Minnesota seasons. Afternoon Tea is served Tuesdays – Sundays from 3p.m. to 5p.m.
The Angry Trout Cafe
A seasonal cafe on the shores of Lake Superior with indoor and outdoor dining. Committed to the concept of sustainability, this restaurant offers organic choices, buys wind power, and purchases from local providers whenever possible. You will not find brand name soda because they make their own!
The Gunflint Tavern
This restaurant and bar overlooking Lake Superior’s harbor has great eclectic food, microbrews, wines and spirits. Set in an old bank building the atmosphere is great and provides an old table made from boards of a bowling alley and the cooler is actually the old walk-in bank vault. Check out their music calendar to see if there is someone playing during your cabin rental stay.
Arts
North House Folk School
Spend your next vacation taking a class at North House Folk School. There are a variety of unique classes to take including boat building, fiber arts, painting, photography, and woodworking with many more class choices on their website. While taking a class you can stay at one of our many Lake Superior cabin rentals close to the school.
Art Colony
Take a class at Minnesota’s oldest art colony. This unique old church turned art school offers classes in glass, ceramics, painting, and drawing. There are even classes for kids. Located in the heart of Grand Marais, this school is minutes away from our rental cabins.
Grand Marais Playhouse
Enjoy the Grand Marais theatrical community by taking in a musical or play performed at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts. Check the website to see if a show is going on during your vacation on the North Shore.
Arrowhead Center for the Arts
Thriving on the North Shore’s unique creative culture, this organization provides the Arrowhead region with theatre, performing arts, music, an artists’ colony, a community radio station (WTIP 90.7FM), and a variety of cultural events. A calendar is listed with Arrowhead Center for the Arts current programs and concerts.
Outdoor Recreation
Superior Hiking Trail
Take a hike on Minnesota’s most scenic hiking trail. This 205 mile trail stretches from Two Harbors to the Canadian Border. Views of Lake Superior and the surrounding hills are breathtaking. Most of our cabin rentals on the North Shore of Minnesota are minutes away from this trail. Stop by the Superior Hiking Trail store in Two Harbors to purchase a trail map or in Tofte at the Lutsen Tofte Tourism Association and Visitor Information Center located within the North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum.
State Park Info
The North Shore is home to eight different Minnesota State Parks. These parks offer tourists a beautiful look at the North Shore scenery and occasionally a glimpse at some wildlife too. All of the parks have hiking trails, picnic spots and some of the parks have events. These parks are a great spot to stop at on your way up the North Shore of Lake Superior or make a lovely day trip.
Boundary Waters Info
Experience nature in the BWCAW 1.3 million acres of forest. A day trip is a North Shore must. There’s a good chance you’ll see wildlife along the drive! This area has great hikes and lots of lakes to do a day canoe or kayak trip. There are outfitters in the area to rent canoes and kayaks from if you do not have your own.
Sawbill Canoe Outfitters
This small family run outfitter is a great stop for many of our vacation rentals in Lutsen, Tofte and Schroeder. Jump into the BWCAW from Sawbill Lake up the Sawbill Trail or go to other lakes in the area. Take a paddle into the wilderness and enjoy a day of quiet enjoyment. Rent canoes and life vests and meet some great local friends. Steve, our owner and a former Sawbill employee, recommends the Kelso Loop which takes you to 3 lakes and can be done in 1 day.
