Magnetic Rock

Sitting a mile and a half off the Gunflint Trail in Northern Minnesota is the Magnetic Rock. The Rock is a relic of the glacier age. The rock is a 60-foot rock, soaring 30 feet into the air from its 10 by a 20-foot base.   The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is a 1-million-acre wilderness area that is found within the Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota. As a designated wilderness area, the BWCA is void of motorized vehicles (except in the event of an emergency) and modern comforts like electricity and plumbing since the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Act was passed in 1978. George Washington Pines

Nowadays, it’s hard to find a place where you can be surrounded by enormous towering pines and still be able to navigate your way through a trail. However, the George Washington Pines Memorial Trail outside of Grand Marais lets you experience just that on a 2.25-mile trail. The George Washington Memorial Pine Plantation was established when 13 boys from the Grand Marais Boy Scout Troop #67 planted 32 acres of land with 14,570 Norway Pine and 7,500, White Pine, in 1932 after a 1927 fire.
