If you are looking to experience the North Shore in an authentic historic log cabin, then look no further! Originally built in 1941, Spirit of Superior is an adoring one-bedroom quintessential cabin that has been completely renovated to include modern-day amenities, all while preserving its original vintage charm. Imagine yourself cozying up with a good book in front of an open fire in the old stone fireplace or sitting outside enjoying your morning coffee in one of the Adirondack chairs, as you wake up with the birds and soak in the stillness of the Big Lake just outside of Schroeder, Minnesota.

In addition, this rental comes with a large open living space above the garage. Inside, you will find a wood-burning stove along with a butler's kitchen, a TV/movie hang-out area, a queen-size bed, and a pull-out sofa bed. Oversized French doors open to a private balcony inviting in the sound of the crashing waves while offering another spectacular view!

This secluded gem is situated on 200' of ledge rock that slopes down to the pristine waters of Lake Superior. You will find a natural rock formation that has become the optimum spot for bonfires and s'more roasting.

There is a second small private cabin on the property. It is approximately 90' away from Spirit of Superior. The driveway is shared and occasionally, this cabin will be occupied by the homeowners.

This Home is Dog Friendly! There is a 2-dog maximum with an additional fee and no other pets are permitted.

Area Information

Located in Schroeder, this property is just a stone's throw away from Sugar Cove Point. A few more miles down the road, at the wayside rest, is an amazing waterfall hike. The opposite direction brings you to the Schroeder Baking Co. for the best scones in town. Lutsen, Temperance River, Grand Marais, and much more, are other nearby places to visit.

Magical Stay

My twin sister and I, with our husbands, celebrated our 50th birthday at Spirit of Superior. The cabin is gorgeous, with so much rustic charm. The sound of the waves, smell of our campfire on the rocky cliffs, beautiful plants and flowers surrounding the property, and coziness and charm of the quaint cabin made it a truly a magical, sensory experience. It was an amazing way to celebrate our birthday, and we hope to make Spirit of Superior a regular part of our yearly North Shore experience. Thank you CVR for a wonderful stay!

Perfect North Shore Getaway

Our recent stay at the Spirit of Superior could not have been more perfect. The main cabin is the epitome of rustic charm. It possess everything you will need to prepare meals to enjoy on either of its two beautiful decks, clean up after a day of hiking, relax in it’s cute living area (stocked with games and books & a TV), or get a good night’s rest while Superior’s crashing waves lull you to sleep. The loft space, above the garage, is perfect for additional guests in your party. It too has everything you need to enjoy your North Shore escape. Finally, the setting on the rocks above the Great Lake is breathtaking. Sitting in the red Adirondack chairs that look out over Superior is the perfect way to unwind and find peace. I sure hope we’re fortunate enough to visit The Spirit of Superior again someday.

Fantastic location

My husband and I just got back from a weekend getaway with our two (clean, non stinky, non shedding and very well behaved) dogs. We were hoping to be able to access the water. We are two healthy, able bodied adults and were so happy we were able to carefully get down to the water with our dogs to let them jump in to the crystal clear water for a swim. The rocks are not quite as steep as they look in pictures. The water was too cold for us but our dogs (Portuguese Water Dogs) did not mind one bit. We had a blast with them fetching sticks and playing in the water, then resting on the warm rocks and taking in the breathtaking views. We set up our grooming table on the deck outside and gave them a quick blow dry before bringing them in to the cabin with us. We enjoyed cooking over a camp fire in the evening one night and driving up to Grand Marais another day for some sight seeing, hiking and dinner at the dog friendly brewery in town. The cabin has a lot of character, super cute, VERY clean and has everything you need. Be sure to bring bug spray-the cabin has some, but if you prefer a particular brand, you'll be using it frequently as there are a lot of mosquitos. The owners do everything they can to make your stay comfortable-could not possibly do more! There are heaters for each room, some are wall units, some are plug in, which we used them all as it got chilly at night. Some of the electrical outlets are a little hard to find, but they are there-just have to look for them. The out house was locked with a padlock so we had to walk across to the main cabin to use the bathroom when we were using the loft area at night. (More space there for us to wind down at night) Not a big deal but if we had other people staying there with us it would have been a little challenging. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

Amazing Property!

Spirit of Superior is a piece of heaven on the North Shore! My husband and I have been visiting this area for over 30 years and this stretch of shoreline really captures the feel of the big lake. The cabins are very comfy and very nicely appointed, with all the comforts! Great bed, cozy blankets and the kitchen has everything you’d need. The outdoor spaces are amazing! Their are so many areas to relax, enjoy a glass of wine and take in the view❤️ The bonus is it is pet friendly, our dog loved running around on the rocks!

Perfection

My family of 4 (my husband and I, our 2yo and 4mo) stayed in the loft above the garage. This was the perfect spot for our little family with a sink and fridge where I could store things for the baby. We woke up to the sound of waves on the shoreline, warm sunlight... Every aspect of the cabins were incredibly thought out. Even the outhouse was comfy and welcoming! We are already dreaming of our next visit here. Perfection!
